How To

How to make wood joints

This tutorial will show you how to join two pieces of wood together. We'll use the "pocket hole joint," which means we drill holes in the wood and then glue them together. If your wood has a straight grain, smooth surface, you can use this method. You might consider dowel joinery if your wood isn’t straight or flat. Here are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. You will need to measure and mark the exact location of your pocket hole joint. Next, drill 3/4 inch holes in each end of each piece using a handheld drilling machine or jigsaw.
  2. Sand Smooth. The wood's edges can be sanded to prevent splitting.
  3. Glue Together Apply glue on both sides of the wooden plank. Allow it to cool for at least 5 minutes before you attach the pieces.
  4. Secure the pieces together. After the glue has dried completely, you can clamp the pieces together until they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. After the glue dries completely, trim off any excess wood around the joint.

Make sure to leave enough room between the pieces so that you can turn them inside and out.
