Additionally, this tool does not require sharpening and can rotate to create a fresh cutting edge when needed.

Hercules

The Hercules Hollowing Tool has many uses. It can be used for making interrupted cuts, or roughing out bowls. Square bodies are designed to spread shock impacts across the rest of the lathe and the ways it works. The 45-degree flat surface of the shank allows for stable cutting, even with interrupted cuts. This tool can be purchased in sizes 5/8" & 3/8".

Osprey

Osprey hollowing instruments are a great way of getting a smooth finish to your bowls. You can choose from two sizes, and they come with a T-9 style Torx wrench that allows you to turn the cutter. They can also be used in the same way as any other type of gouge and are popular among pen turners. An Osprey, if you are new to woodturning is a good tool to start.

How To

How can you accurately measure wood?

We use several methods to measure wood. We use a digital scale (a tool for measuring distances), a laser-level (used to level your work surface), as well as a bubble level (used in order to level your work surface).

A digital caliper comes with two jaws. The one jaw holds the object to be measured, while the other measures distance between them. The digital caliper is great for measuring small distances like thicknesses of wood.

Laser levels are equipped with an infrared light beam, which projects a line across a floor. The laser emits a red dot along the line. The line can be viewed down to determine if the surface has an even surface. Laser levels are ideal for checking the accuracy on large surfaces.

Bubble levels look similar to a compass. The device has a bubble at its center. As long the bubble is not in the middle, the device will show you whether the surface of the object is level. The bubble levels can be used to check the accuracy of smaller areas.
